Multisensory Math (CRA Math Framework & Backward Instructional Design)
Our Hands-On approach Math program will enhance any existing math program and help staff members diagnose and prescribe appropriate math instruction for students who are not meeting goals, as well as those students who are learning new concepts. Teachers learn the research and application of the Concrete-Representational-Abstract (CRA) framework. Your staff will experience hands-on lessons which focus on math standards as they learn to develop and deliver lessons that will help students understand math concepts. The CRA framework is used as a structure on which to build effective lessons and meet the needs of individual students as well as groups. Contact us to train your staff to learn the essential skills of CRA Math and effective instructional design.
Instructional Planning based on “Best Practices”
Help your staff learn the essential elements of planning and presenting lessons that “stick” with students. Daily skill building, structured and engaging routines, along with content that connects to the lives of the learners are essential to student achievement. These classroom-tested and research-based strategies, along with other elements of quality instruction design make a major impact on the effectiveness and long-lasting results of lessons. Let our teacher-leaders mentor your staff and provide the support that is needed to improve instructional delivery in your school. Teachers will be trained how to easily build lessons that include all of the essential “best practices” elements. They will also learn how to make their classroom a nurturing and inviting place—a learning environment where students experience success and experience a sense of belonging. Contact us to train your staff to design lessons that increase student achievement in any content area.
Literacy Across the Curriculum
Content area teachers will discover easy-to-implement reading and writing strategies that promote student learning of the content they teach, as well as improve literacy skills. Students will increase their learning of subject matter and become more competent readers. Bring your content-area teachers up to speed with student and teacher-friendly strategies that improve comprehension and writing skills, as well as improve the learning of subject matter. Most content-area teachers have not been adequately trained in content-area literacy strategies. Contact Learning Mechanics to provide effective training, modeling and coaching to ensure that your staff is able to help students become reading and writing apprentices in the content areas.
Our instructors demonstrate model lessons which involve your staff or the students. When the lessons are modeled with the staff, participants have an opportunity to “try out” the lessons from a learner’s point-of-view. Each model lesson is followed by group discussion and clarification. Teachers then feel more prepared to use the strategies with students. Model lessons can also be demonstrated in the classroom with students. Our expert instructors will model lessons while teacher(s) observe. In follow-up sessions, teachers have the opportunity to share insights and ask questions that will help them to successfully implement the strategies with students. This service makes a great follow-up to teacher training or as part of an on-going staff development package. Contact us to discuss this PD service.
Math Coaching/Mentoring
Learning Mechanics offers math coaching on a short or long-term contract basis. If your school is unable to afford the benefit of a full time math coach or mentor, we can provide math coaching services to help your staff improve their math instruction for grade K-8. This service makes a great follow-up to teacher training or as part of an on-going staff development package. Contact us today to discuss possible coaching models to find one that will meet your building needs.
